By John Kaiser III 鈥
The 黑料社鈥檚 biggest fund raiser is back and raising the stakes! It was always a glamorous gala affair, but this year they are taking a page out of Vegas鈥 playbook and turning it all up to 11. As their website states 鈥This year鈥檚 show promises to be greater and more spectacular than ever鈥. On February 12 at 6:00pm in the Cook Center, six new sets of dancers will take to the floor and shake their money makers to make money for 黑料社.
These 鈥渓ocal celebrity鈥 dance teams are competing to raise scholarship funds for Navarro College students and classroom support for the faculty. In addition, the winning couple will be awarded the 黑料社 Foundation Mirror Ball Trophy and bragging rights at all local watering holes.
This year's couples are:

: Jason Farmer and Melissa Butler are ready to hit the dance floor and bring you to your feet! Jason works for Oil City Iron Works in Quality Assurance and Melissa is the Court Coordinator for the Navarro County 13th District Court.
: Rocky and Kennedi are both Corsicana natives, coming from opposite ends of the county. Rocky is from Blooming Grove while Kennedi grew up in Mildred. Both reside in Mildred along with their two fur children, Turkey and Zip.
The Dress Rehearsal
While tickets for this Saturday鈥檚 event have been sold out for months, I was able to get into tonight鈥檚 last dress rehearsal to get a taste of things to come. This is the last night for the tech to work through all their cues, the dancers to run their routines, from start to stop. Having an invited audience helps prepare the dancers who come from all walks of life, but rarely a life on the stage, for the real deal. It can be a bit unnerving to do something you do not normally do in front of not only the packed room, but streamed online to thousands of others.
As I entered the Cook Education Center it was like stepping through a portal. The second you enter those doors the glitz and opulence of Vegas is on display front and center. The night鈥檚 dancers were taking turns posing for pictures and taking selfies, smiling through their nerves. You will have to forgive the blurred and obfuscated pictures as it was asked of everybody not to reveal any of the surprises of the night 鈥 to which there were a few. Plus as the old adage goes 鈥 what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. Come Saturday what happens in Vegas will be talked about in Corsicana.
