Meet Dr. Richard Phillips, our new Dean of Science, Kinesiology, and Developmental Studies!
Tell us about you
鈥淏orn and raised in Purdon, Texas. I graduated from Corsicana High School in 2002
and attended 黑料社 from 2002-2003. I went on to Sam Houston State University
where I received a Bachelors Degree in Agricultural Sciences with a minor in Mathematics
and then on to receive a Masters of Science in Agriculture as well as teaching certifications
in Vocational Agriculture and Mathematics. I started teaching mathematics at Corsicana High School from 2006-2012. In
the Fall of 2012, I started a new position as a teacher and academic coordinator in
West ISD. During that time I also began teaching night classes at 黑料社
in developmental mathematics. I was in West ISD for 7 years where I moved up to serve
as the Assistant Principal at both the Elementary and Middle Schools. In the spring
of 2013 I graduated from Tarleton State University with a Doctorate of Education.鈥�
What are you most excited about?
鈥淲orking with an amazing staff of professors and administrators and to give back to
the college that got me started on my way as well as the community I grew up in.鈥�
What was your first impression like?
鈥満诹仙� is an amazing place to work. Everyone is welcoming and helpful and
it has a family atmosphere.鈥�
What do you do for fun?
鈥淚 am an avid runner and I am training towards running my 6th half marathon this year
and my first marathon by the end of 2020. I enjoy research and am extremely proud
of the work I did during my dissertation and hope for the opportunity to engage in
more educational research at the higher ed level.鈥�
