Emergency Medical Services Programs
The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program prepares students for careers in pre-hospital emergency medicine and enables graduates of the program to work as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and Paramedics in a variety of settings, such as fire departments and public and private ambulance services. This program is a combination of general education and EMS courses including class lectures, skills, and clinical hours in the hospital and the ambulance.
The Emergency Medical Technician Certificate prepares students to function as entry level EMTs. This program offers a certificate-only degree plan. The Paramedic program prepares students to function as entry-level paramedics. Degree plan options include a Certificate or an Associate of Applied Science (AAS). The EMT Quick Facts and Paramedic Quick Facts open to a Portable Document Format (PDF). You may need the free plugin to view the file. |
Please review the EMS Program and Procedures Manual (18 pages, opens in new tab). This document applies to all Emergency Medical Services programs toward the missions to include Emergency Medical Responder, Emergency Medical Technician, and Paramedic programs.
MISSION STATEMENT
To prepare competent entry-level Paramedics in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains with or without exit points at the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician and/or Emergency Medical Technician, and/or Emergency Medical Responder levels.
NOTICE TO STUDENTS REGARDING LICENSINGHouse Bill (HB) 1508 |
Effective September 1st, 2017, House Bill (HB) 1508 amends the Texas Occupations Code Section 53 that requires education providers to notify you a potential or enrolled student that a criminal history may make you ineligible for an occupational license upon program completion. The website provides links to information about the licensing process and requirements. Should you wish to request a review of the impact of criminal history on your potential Paramedic License prior to or during your quest for a degree, you can visit the website and request a 鈥淐riminal History Evaluation.鈥 This information is being provided to all persons who apply or enroll in the program with notice of the requirements as described above, regardless of whether or not the person has been convicted of a criminal offense. Additionally, HB 1508 authorizes licensing agencies to require reimbursements when a student fails to receive the required notice. |
