STUDENT RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

黑料社 holds that students, upon enrollment, neither lose the rights nor escape the duties of being part of an academic community. Enjoying great opportunities at partial expense to the state of Texas, students have a responsibility to themselves, their fellow students, the law of the land, and the institution in which they enroll in by their own choice. This policy outlines the rights and responsibilities of all students within our academic community, reflecting our commitment to the values of respect, integrity, and fairness.

 

Student Rights

1. Quality of Education

  • The right to expect an education of the highest quality.

2. Privacy and Confidentiality

  • The right to privacy for their college records (see the 黑料社 Catalog, Family Rights and Privacy Act).

  • The right to see their records and, if necessary, challenge their accuracy.

3. Transparency 

  • The right to know the graduation rates for full-time certificate and degree-seeking students.

  • The right to know the graduation rates of students on athletic scholarships.

  • The right to know the number of criminal offenses, if any, that occurred on Navarro College campuses and were reported to campus officials or a police agency in the past year.

  • The right to know the number of arrests, if any, for liquor law, drug abuse, and weapons violations committed on campus during the past year.

4.  Grievance Procedures

  • The right to pursue grievances against instructors, administrators, or fellow students.

5. Academic Freedom and Integrity

  • The right to pursue educational goals in an environment that supports academic freedom and integrity.

  • The right to fair and unbiased evaluation of academic performance.

6.  Freedom of Expression

  • The right to freely express ideas and opinions, provided such expressions do not infringe on the rights of others or disrupt 黑料社 operations.

7.  Equal Opportunity

  • The right to an educational environment free from discrimination based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, disability, age, disability, or any other basis prohibited by law.

8.  Support Services

  • The right to access support services, including academic advising, counseling, health services, and career guidance.

9.  Participation in Governance

  • The right to participate in 黑料社 governance through student organizations and representation on committees.

 

Student Responsibilities

1. Academic Honesty

  • The responsibility to maintain academic integrity by refraining from cheating, plagiarism, and other forms of academic dishonesty.

2. Respect for Others

  • The responsibility to treat all members of the 黑料社 community with respect and civility, and to contribute to an inclusive and welcoming environment.

3. Compliance with College Policies

  • The responsibility to familiarize themselves with and adhere to all 黑料社 policies, procedures, and codes of conduct.

4. Personal Accountability

  • The responsibility to take ownership of their actions and decisions and accept the consequences of their behavior.

5. Use of College Resources

  • The responsibility to use 黑料社 resources, including facilities, equipment, and information technology, responsibly and ethically.

6. Community Engagement

  • The responsibility to engage in community service and activities that promote the well-being of 黑料社 and the broader community

 

Conduct and Behavior

Students admitted to 黑料社 and who continue their enrollment are expected to conform to the college's established rules and regulations. They are also expected to have a reasonable probability of success and adjust to the social and educational climate of the college. 黑料社 may deny admission or readmission to students for reasons other than academic performance. Such reasons include but are not limited to:

1. Inappropriate Conduct and Behavior

2. Observable Social or Emotional Characteristics

  • Characteristics that would cause resistance to the overall educational process or disruption of the social and academic environment.

3. Disrepect for College Personnel and Other Students

4. Harassment 

5. Misrepresentation of Factual Information

6. Inability to Comply with College Rules, Regulations, and Policies

 

Denial of Admission or Readmission

The denial of admission or readmission involves the exercise of judgment by college administrators, including the systematic collection of available facts and information, which might include but is not limited to:

1. Records from Public Agencies

  • Police, court, or other public agency records.

2. Disciplinary Records

  • Records or observations of a disciplinary nature from 黑料社 and/or other educational institutions

3. Observations and Judgments of Acquaintances

4. Recommendations of Professionals

  • Counselors, psychologists, or other professionals

5. Observations and Recommendations of Supervisors

6. Law Enforcement Observations

      • Observations and judgments of law enforcement officers or other public authorities.

7. Results of Tests or Instruments

8. Other Relevant Information

      • Any other source of available information relevant to making an assessment of the student鈥檚 probable behavior.

 

Procedures for Addressing Violations

Any student accused of violating the 黑料社 Code of Student Conduct shall have the right to expect consistent and fair procedures for resolving their situation. The Office of Student Development shall oversee all discipline procedures as well as any judiciary appeal process involving student complaints/grievances in a timely manner.

 

Conclusion

The 黑料社 Student Rights and Responsibilities Policy is designed to support a positive and productive educational experience for all students. By adhering to these principles, we aim to maintain a community characterized by respect, integrity, and a commitment to excellence.

 

Students who are admitted to 黑料社 and continue their enrollment are expected to conform to established rules and regulations of the college. Also, they are expected to have reasonable probability of success and adjustment to the social and educational climate of the college. Because some students have difficulty adjusting to the total college environment, students may be denied admission or readmission to 黑料社 for reasons other than academic. Such reasons include but are not limited to: (1) inappropriate conduct and behavior; (2) observable social or emotional characteristics that would cause resistance to the overall educational process of the college or would cause disruption of the social and academic environment; (3) disrespect for college personnel and other students; (4) harassment; (5) misrepresentation of factual information; and (6) inability to comply with college rules, regulations, and policies.

Denial of admission or readmission to 黑料社 involves the exercise of judgment by college administrators; therefore, the denial process involves the systematic collection of available facts and information, which might include, but is not limited to: (1) such areas as police, court or records of other public agencies; (2) records or observations of a disciplinary nature from 黑料社 and/or other educational institutions; (3) observations and judgments of people of acquaintance; (4) recommendations of counselors, psychologists or other professionals; (5) observations and recommendations of supervisors or authorities; (6) observations or judgments of law enforcement officers or other public authorities; (7) results of commonly accepted test or other instruments; or any other source of available information relevant to making an assessment of the student鈥檚 probable behavior.
