Move-Out & Breaks


If you are not returning to Residence Life, we hope you have enjoyed your time with us and that you will take many wonderful memories with you as you depart. Thank you for sharing your Bulldog experience with us! 

Residence Halls close over the winter break and at the conclusion of the spring semester. Information below is not exhaustive related to move-out information. Residents are strongly encouraged to attend closing meetings hosted by their RAs/ Area Coordinators in order to avoid improper checkout and other fees.

 

Move-Out Guidelines

All students living in the Residence Halls are required to check-out of their room within 24 hours of your last final exam. 

*Graduates are required to get approval from housing for extended stay, graduates are required to check out the following day after commencement by 1pm. (Failure to complete all required checkout procedures will result in a $200 improper check out fee and additional $100 fine for each day pass the initial checkout date.

 

Actions to complete a check-out include:

  • Complete the "Are you Returning or Not?" form

  • Schedule a checkout time.

  • Remove all trash and perishable items

  • Unplug appliance appliances, clean and defrost refrigerator prior to check-out

  • Complete checkout form with Resident Assistant/Area Coordinator.

  • Return all keys during checkout

 

 

Cleaning Checklists

 

HOW CLEAN IS CLEAN? Use this guide to ensure your room is clean and ready for check-out:

open all close all

 

Common Area, Bedroom and Bathroom

You can check cleaning supplies out from the Housing Office including, brooms/dustpans, Swiffer Wetjet (for rooms with carpeting), vacuums, and garbage bags.

Clear out all belongings

Move furniture back to original placement (ensure all furniture provided are in your room/common area - for example, bed, desk, chair, dresser, etc..)

Dust all furniture & inside of drawers

Wipe out window sill and dust blinds

Close/lock your windows, and ensure the screens are intact

Wipe down shelf in closet

Carefully clean light switches, outlets and turn off lights, and ensure your door is locked (even if it's empty of all personal belongings)

Vacuum carpet

Mop floor 

Cleaned, free of decals, door number intact and in good condition

Wipe surfaces down

Clean mirrors & wipe out medicine cabinet

Remove any posters, stickers, or adhesive from all surfaces (e.g. doors, walls and ceiling). If you have 3M strips on the wall, please remove them carefully without causing damage to the wall

Disposed of interior and exterior trash into the dumpster

Mail Forwarding

Before checking out, be sure to check your mailbox one last time and ask the mailroom for any packages.

Information about Mail Forwarding and Change of Address using the United States Postal Service can be found on the USPS web page.

Breaks

All Residence Halls and Dining facilities officially close during Thanksgiving break, Winter break, Spring break and prior to summer and fall semesters. All students are required to leave campus during these times except for student groups who are required to be here by the College. Any student found on campus during a closed period will be assessed an initial penalty of $300 and an additional $100 per day.  Room payments do not cover periods when classes are not in session. Any student needing to stay during a closed period will be required to pay $35 daily rate.

Storage

The College does not store any personal property.  Any resident who checks out of Residence Life or is removed administratively will be required to remove all personal items. When items are left in and around campus facilities after the owner has vacated, or when there is not ownership indicated on the items, the items will be considered abandoned.

Property that is left unclaimed after 48 hours will be disposed of at the expense of the resident and without discretion/delay and without liability by the College.  Residence Life NOT responsible.
