INSTRUCTION
ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT
GRADUATION

Procedure

COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY

ºÚÁÏÉç awards diplomas to students upon successful completion of the requirements for their degree or certificate during the fall, spring, and summer semesters. Graduating students are encouraged to take part in the official commencement ceremony, which is held annually in December, May, and August. The December ceremony specifically honors students completing their degree requirements in the fall semester, the May ceremony is reserved for those finishing in the spring, and the August ceremony is dedicated to students concluding their degree requirements in the summer.

PARTICIPATION FOR STUDENTS WITHIN 6 HOURS OF GRADUATION

Students who have completed their degree or certificate requirements within 6 semester credit hours and have registered for the remaining required courses in the subsequent term may petition to participate in the commencement ceremony.

Participation under this provision requires approval from the Registrar’s Office.

Students must meet all other commencement participation requirements.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

To participate in the commencement exercise, the student must apply for graduation to the Registrar's Office no later than the date published deadline for the term of graduation. These dates can be found in the ºÚÁÏÉç academic calendar. The graduation application is located on the ºÚÁÏÉç web page at graduation.navarrocollege.edu.

Students may graduate under the catalog and programs in effect at the time of their initial enrollment if they have had continuous enrollment. Missing one fall or spring semester constitutes a break in enrollment and students will be required to adhere to the catalog and programs in effect at the time of their re-enrollment. Students also have the choice of graduating under the catalog and programs in effect at the time of graduation. Students must choose one or the other and may not combine rules or programs from two or more catalogs.

GUARANTEE

Under certain conditions, ºÚÁÏÉç guarantees that its associate degrees transfer to other colleges and universities and that occupational degrees and/or certificates help prepare students for employment in business, industry, and service occupations.

REVERSE TRANSFER

After receiving a student transcript from a general academic teaching institution under Education Code 61.833(c), ºÚÁÏÉç shall review the transcript and, if determined the student has earned the credits required to receive an associate degree, the college may award the student the degree.

To be eligible, the student must:

  1.  be enrolled in a general academic teaching institution;

  2. have transferred to the institution or previously attended ºÚÁÏÉç;

  3. have earned at least 25% of credit hours of coursework successfully completed at Navarro College; and

  4. have earned a cumulative total of at least 60 credit hours for coursework successfully completed for an Associate's degree or 120 hours for a Baccalaureate degree.
